San Miguel Electric Cooperative, Inc. Announces 2023 Charitable Recipients 

 

CHRISTINE, Texas [Dec. 14, 2023] – San Miguel Electric Cooperative, Inc. (SMEC) has announced its 2023 donations to the local community, contributing more than $28,000 to 33 organizations. The recipients are volunteer fire departments and charitable entities dedicated to helping area residents, including children, the elderly, the disabled and the disadvantaged. In addition to the monetary contributions, employees donated their time and talents to local groups.


“San Miguel Electric Cooperative is an integral part of local life in Atascosa and McMullen Counties – from our charitable donations to our employees volunteering locally,” said Craig Courter, General Manager & CEO of SMEC. Each year SMEC supports various qualifying organizations within the Cooperative’s South Texas geographic areas through its own giving, as well as matched giving through its CoBank “Sharing Success” charitable contribution program.


In 2023, San Miguel gave donations ranging from $500 - $1,000 to the following organizations:

•    Atascosa Animal Allies

•    Atascosa County Child Care Board 

•    Born to Ride

•    Bountiful Blessings Food Pantry 

•    CASA of South Texas

•    Children’s Alliance of South Texas

•    Combat Marine Outdoors

•    Jamie’s Ranch 

•    Longhorn Museum Society

•    New Tactics Inc.

•    Oasis Acres Equine

•    Quilted Hearts  

•    Cambellton Volunteer Fire Department 

•    Charlotte Volunteer Fire Department

•    Christine Volunteer Fire Department 

•    Country Trails Volunteer Fire Department

•    Jourdanton Volunteer Fire Department

•    Leming Volunteer Fire Department

•    Poteet Volunteer Fire Department

    

And through its CoBank "Sharing Success" Program 

•    $2,500 to Jourdanton Education Foundation

•    $2,500 to Pleasanton Education Foundation

•    $5,000 to Atascosa County 4-H Council

  


Outside of its Charitable Giving and CoBank “Sharing Success” programs, San Miguel also donated Bluetooth speakers and cutting boards to 4-H kids; more than $1,000 in materials for the Atascosa County Child Care Board; and 11 Thanksgiving hams to the Bountiful Blessings Food Pantry. In addition, San Miguel employees donated their time to worthy organizations, including the Purple Heart Hunt for Veterans, CASA and the Texas Ramp Project.
