2022 Charitable Recipients

CHRISTINE, Texas [Jan. 25, 2023] – San Miguel Electric Cooperative (SMEC) has announced its annual donations to local charitable organizations to assist them in fulfilling their missions to the local community.

“Throughout the year, we give our time and money to support the organizations that make this the caring and vibrant community that it is,” said Craig Courter, general manager & CEO of SMEC, which each year supports various qualifying organizations within the Cooperative’s South Texas geographic areas. “From the vulnerable in our community to those protecting our homes and businesses, we believe in giving back,” said Courter.

In 2022, San Miguel gave $1,000 donations to the following organizations:

• Jamie’s Ranch

• Atascosa County Child Care Board

• CASA of South Texas

• Bountiful Blessings Food Pantry

• Quilted Hearts

• Cowboys Ranch

• Atascosa Animal Allies

• Campbellton Volunteer Fire Department

• Charlotte Volunteer Fire Department

• Christine Volunteer Fire Department

• Jourdanton Volunteer Fire Department

• Leming Volunteer Fire Department

• Poteet Volunteer Fire Department

• Country Trails Volunteer Fire Department


Through its CoBank Matching Grant program, the Cooperative also gave $5,000 to Atascosa Animal Allies and $5,000 to the Atascosa County Child Care Board, as well as $830 in gift cards, toys and goody bags for the Child Care Board’s teens and children.

In addition, the Cooperative and its employees in 2022 provided volunteer hours to Jamie’s Ranch, the Texas Ramp Project and the Bountiful Blessings Food Pantry.
